University Teaching Associate

 at University of Sheffield

Dr. Ariza started his career in science studying biotechnology at the University of Abertay, after which he undertook a part-time PhD in biochemistry at the University of Dundee, where he specialized in structural biology. After his PhD, Dr. Ariza worked in a hybrid industrial/academic setting at the University of York, where he solved protein structures for Novozymes, the world’s largest industrial enzyme manufacturer. Dr. Ariza then moved on to purely academic studies of viral RNA-binding proteins at the University of Leeds, and enzymes involved in ADP-ribosylation, an important post-translational modification of proteins, at the University of Oxford. He currently works at the University of Sheffield, where he teaches molecular biology. He also branches out from studying nucleic acid-binding proteins, which have been the main focus of his research since his PhD, to study plastic-degrading enzymes, marking a return to where his science career first started: research in biotechnology.
