Dr. Ashley Turner is an assistant professor of biology at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama, and identifies as queer, lesbian and a cis-gender woman. Turner completed a BS and MS in biology at the University of West Georgia and a PhD in genetics, genomics and bioinformatics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she studied neurofibromin function and human neurofibromatosis type 1 mutations. Following this, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at UAB in the Department of Biology. During this time, the American Association of University Women awarded her the 2019–20 American Fellowship for her commitment to education and equity for women and girls in science.
