After earning his PhD at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completing postdoctoral studies at UC Berkeley, Ben spent over 13 years at Genentech, Inc. There, he oversaw several teams, guided establishment of the Functional Genomics Platform and Advanced Cell Engineering Hub, and pioneered efforts on the company's first mRNA-based cancer vaccine, T cell-based immunotherapy and gene therapy programs. In Fall 2023, Ben was appointed as the Fonds de Recherche du Québec (FRQ) Chair in Genome Engineering and established his lab at the Centre de recherche de l'Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont/Université de Montréal. There, his team focuses on next-gen genome engineering technology applications and novel gene/cell/nucleic acid therapy development.
