Carolina Reyes, PhD
Research Scientist
at Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa)
Dr. Carolina Reyes is a microbiologist. Her primary research focuses on deciphering how microbial metabolic pathways mediate redox transformations and metal uptake using cultivation-dependent and independent methods. Deciphering how microorganisms transform and interact with their surrounding environment is crucial for understanding how they decompose and recycle material in the environment and what their wider ecological impact is.
Reyes obtained a BSc in microbiology and molecular genetics in 2001 from the University of California, Los Angeles. She later obtained an MSc in biology from California State University, Los Angeles, and a PhD from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Since 2020, Reyes has been working at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) as a research scientist.Awards & Certifications
