Dr. Bastiaan Krom
Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Preventive Dentistry

Dr. Bastiaan Krom is a molecular microbiologist with extensive experience in molecular biology. He earned a PhD from the University of Groningen, followed by a Postdoctoral fellowship at Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. Krom also worked at the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the University Medical Center Groningen. Since 2011 he has worked in the Department of Preventive Dentistry of the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA) and was recently named the chair of the Department of Preventive Dentistry. Dr. Krom’s research focuses on the dynamic interactions between fungi and bacteria in the oral cavity. He uses complex in vitro models to unravel the effects of fungi on the commensal and pathogenic oral microflora.
