Dr. Dwight German is a professor in the neuroscience division in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dwight has over 40 years of research experience involving neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. His laboratory has been involved with blood biomarker development for the past several years, and they have developed a blood biomarker for Alzheimer’s disease (O’Bryant et al., 2014). In collaboration with Dr. Laura Hewitson at the Johnson Center for Child Health and Development in Austin, TX, he discovered a blood biomarker for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This panel of 12 proteins has 87% accuracy for the identification of ASD in boys.
