Emma Baston, PhD profile page

After completing her PhD, Dr. Emma Baston began working as a scientist at Immunocore (formerly Avidex) in 2001. Baston gained extensive experience in PCR, SPR, cloning, protein engineering, protein characterization, microbial expression, refolding, and purification of T-cell receptors (TCR) and other soluble proteins. Notably, Baston cloned out the wild-type TCR, the starting protein from which Immunocore’s commercial product Kimmtrak® was engineered. In subsequent years, she has been part of the team that prepared the product and manufacturing process for regulatory submission, scale-up activities, process validation, successful biologics license application submission, and ongoing commercial manufacture and technical oversight. As senior director of process development, Baston and her team are responsible for working with research to identify optimal products to take forward into manufacturing, and for the design and optimization of new and ongoing clinical manufacturing processes. Alongside this, the team writes and reviews the manufacturing sections for regulatory submissions and updates.
