Federico Appetecchia, PhD
Postdoctoral Researcher
Dr. Appetecchia holds a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry obtained at La Sapienza - University of Rome (Italy) and joined the laboratory of Prof. Flaminia Catteruccia in 2023 as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He has over six years of research experience in small-molecule drug discovery, with a strong focus on infectious diseases. His current research bridges chemistry and biology to identify novel drug targets and develop next-generation antimalarial compounds for innovative malaria transmission-blocking strategies aimed at preventing disease spread. He has contributed to the discovery of new lead compounds for a novel vector-control strategy for malaria prevention and have been involved in the initial implementation and testing of this approach against field-isolated Plasmodium parasites in endemic areas (Adama, Ethiopia).
