
Irene De Biase, MD,PhD
Professor of Pathology
Dr. De Biase is a professor of pathology at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Approximately seventy percent of her time is dedicated to clinical service. She is board certified in clinical biochemical genetics and shares the management and the clinical responsibility for the Biochemical Genetics laboratory at ARUP laboratories, a national reference laboratory owned by the University of Utah. As medical director, Dr. De Biase is dedicated to providing accurate and timely results to aid the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with inborn errors of metabolism. She received her MD and PhD in cellular and molecular genetics at the Federico II University in Naples, Italy. She then served as a postdoctoral fellow in molecular genetics at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and a postdoctoral fellow in clinical biochemical genetics at the Greenwood Genetics Center in South Carolina. During her time at the University of Utah, she has focused on improving and expanding testing available for rare conditions, educating clinicians on test utilization and interpretation, and contributing to collaborative efforts combining expertise from different institutions.
