James McCullagh, PhD profile page

James McCullagh is Professor of Biological Chemistry at the University of Oxford and Director of the Mass Spectrometry Research Facility. After completing an undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences at Durham University and an MSc at UCL, he worked for Micromass (now Waters) in Manchester before undertaking a NERC D.Phil. at Oxford, where he developed biological and isotope ratio mass spectrometry methods. Following a postdoctoral position in Oxford's Department of Chemistry, he became Director of the Mass Spectrometry Research Facility in 2009 and established his independent research group in 2010. Appointed Associate Professor in 2015 and promoted to Professor in 2020, he leads research into the development and application of mass spectrometry and allied bioanalytical techniques to investigate biological, biomedical and environmental chemistry, with a particular focus on understanding chemical systems in health and disease.
