Professor Katerina Akassoglou is a professor of neurology at the University of California San Francisco (UCFS) and the director of the Gladstone UCSF Center for Neurovascular Brain Immunology. Her research focuses on understanding how neurovascular and neuroimmune mechanisms can contribute to neurological diseases involving CNS autoimmunity and neurodegeneration. She has developed novel imaging tools to study the neurovascular interface and therapeutic strategies to block the damaging effects of blood factors in the brain without compromising their beneficial effects in blood clotting. She is an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), the American Association for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) and the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences (AAAS).
