Marilyn Bui, MD, PhD profile page

Dr. Bui was born and raised in Beijing, China. After earning her medical degree there, she pursued a PhD in Immunology and Molecular Pathology at the University of Florida (UF). She completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at UF, followed by a Cytopathology fellowship there. Since joining the Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute in 2005, she has advanced through the ranks, achieving the position of senior member in 2015. She also serves as the scientific director of the Analytic Microscopy Core and the chair of the Women in Oncology Executive Board of the cancer center, and the section head of Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology of the pathology department. She is also a professor and served as the director of the Cytopathology Fellowship at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine for 14 years until 2023. Dr. Bui’s areas of expertise include bone and soft tissue pathology, cytopathology, biomarker testing, digital pathology, and augmented intelligence. As a patient-centered pathologist integrating research, education, advocacy and service, she is dedicated to providing the highest standard of patient care. She was honored with the 2019 College of American Pathologists (CAP) Distinguished Patient Care Award. As a key opinion leader, Dr. Bui serves as the study pathologist for multiple research grants and has an extensive publication record, including over 230 peer-reviewed articles, 30 book chapters and three books: The Atlas of Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology, The Healing Art of Pathology and the Modern Techniques in Cytopathology. A prolific innovator, she holds three patents in digital pathology and cancer diagnostics. She serves on multiple scientific advisory boards for industry.
