Senior Principal Scientist
at Deep Origin
Mostafa Ahmed, PhD, is a drug discovery leader with more than a decade of experience across academic research, biotechnology, and industry partnerships. His work has contributed to advancing discovery programs from hit identification through preclinical development. He currently serves as Senior Principal Scientist in R&D at Deep Origin, where he applies cutting-edge computational approaches to drug discovery. Previously, he was Director of Discovery at Atomwise, where he led internal discovery programs and directed cross-functional teams. He is a co-author of the landmark Scientific Reports study benchmarking AI-enabled virtual screening across 318 targets, as well as a co-inventor on granted patents. A pharmacist by training, Mostafa received a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue graduate studies in medicinal chemistry in the United States. He earned both his MS and PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Virginia Commonwealth University. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and serves as Affiliate Faculty at the VCU School of Pharmacy, where he teaches graduate courses in computer-aided drug discovery.
