Imaging Scientist
at Carcinotech
Dr. Olivia Matthews is an Imaging Scientist at Carcinotech, where she plays a key role in the development and execution of patient-derived 3D tumour models for oncology research. Her work focuses on applying imaging approaches to characterize complex in vitro systems and support the generation of robust, reproducible datasets. With experience across biotech startup environments, she specializes in coordinating complex experimental workflows spanning the full pipeline from tumor tissue processing through to downstream analysis. Olivia has particular expertise in tissue dissociation, cell handling, and cryopreservation workflows, including the implementation and optimisation of controlled systems such as the VIA Extractor and VIA Freeze. She plays a central role in ensuring consistency and quality across these upstream processes, with a focus on preserving cell viability and maintaining the heterogeneity of tumor, stromal, and immune populations. In addition to her laboratory work, Olivia contributes to experimental design and project coordination across internal and client-facing studies, helping to translate complex biological questions into robust, reproducible workflows. Her role bridges hands-on execution with data interpretation and operational delivery to support high-quality datasets for translational research and drug discovery programs. Olivia holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh.
