Paul Austin, PhD profile page

Dr. Paul Austin completed his undergraduate degree in pharmacology at the University of Bath, UK, followed by a PhD in neuropharmacology at King’s College London, where he explored the therapeutic potential of glutamate receptors in Parkinson’s disease.
In 2008 he relocated to Sydney, Australia, and undertook two post-docs in the field of chronic neuropathic pain, firstly at the University of Sydney, and then at the University of New South Wales. In 2012, Austin took up a teaching and research position at the University of Sydney. He is currently an associate professor in the neuroscience theme. He now leads the Laboratory of Neuroimmunology and Behaviour, which conducts interdisciplinary neuroimmunology research spanning the fields of chronic pain and neurodegeneration.
His research consists of human research on disease mechanisms and biomarker identification, and translational disease modeling for therapeutic discovery. He and his team were awarded John Boyd Craig Research Award from the Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists for their research proposal on imaging neuroinflammation after acute injury to predict Complex regional Pain Syndrome.
