at Utrecht University
Dr. Paulina Núñez Bernal is originally from Mexico and holds a master's in Regenerative Medicine and Technology at Utrecht University, where she also obtained her PhD in Biomedical Science with a specialization in Regenerative Medicine. In her PhD, Bernal focused on developing advanced in vitro models for biomedical research and advancing the novel volumetric bioprinting technique. Bernal has experience with various 3D printing technologies, bio-ink development and characterization and 3D cell culture. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University Medical Center Utrecht, and her research mainly focuses on the development and advancement of bioprinting technologies and their applications for a broad range of tissues and organs (e.g., liver, cartilage, heart) with state-of-the-art biological components like organoids and induced pluripotent stem cells. Paulina has received the New Investigator Award from the International Society for Biofabrication, recognizing her achievements in the field at an early stage of her career. She was also one of the funded participants for the 72nd Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.
