Discovery Imaging Field Application Specialist

Phil Beckett is a Discovery Imaging Field Application Specialist at Cytiva. He started his career with the company in the UK as part of Pharmacia Biotech over 30 years ago. He has since moved to the US and is now based near Princeton, NJ. His role within the company has been centered on supporting electrophoresis, imaging, and detection strategies for biomolecules. He has a degree in Biochemistry from Liverpool University and carried out postgraduate studies in plant biochemistry at Lancaster University, studying the effect of pollutant gases on crop plants. His first job in industry was with Evans Medical in Liverpool where he helped characterize a new recombinant vaccine against hepatitis B and is credited with the development of the Western Smudge technique (a.k.a. the Beckett Blob). He is an active member of the American Electrophoresis Society and was the secretary from 2008-2022. He also has a book chapter published: “The Basics of 2D – DIGE” in: Difference Gel Electrophoresis (DIGE): Methods and Protocols. He has a passion for his subject matter and is always eager to help his colleagues and customers with their needs.
