Richard has led the development and implementation of the rapid diagnostic sequencing unit on the GENEPII platform at Hospices Civils de Lyon since 2021, using Oxford Nanopore Technologies. One of the first initiatives was the emergency SARS-CoV-2 sequencing for characterizing emerging variants and assessing monoclonal antibody resistance in hospitalized patients. Richard has been key to implementing the routine use of Nanopore sequencing in several clinical settings including for the diagnosis of bacterial and fungal infections, genotyping and identifying drug resistance mutations for hepatitis viruses and adenoviruses. He also oversees the use of rapid Nanopore sequencing within the platform for suspected avian influenza cases.
