
Food Scientist
at Federal Institute of Metrology METAS
Since 2017, Silvia Mallia has worked at the Federal Institute of Metrology METAS in Bern (Switzerland) as research scientist and project manager in food safety and nutrition. She is implementing analytical procedures for elemental analysis of food and clinical samples by ICP-MS and is working on the development of certified reference materials in food matrices. Silvia leads the Swiss National Reference Laboratory for elements and nitrogen compounds in food. For 13 years, she also worked in several research institutes and universities in Italy, Switzerland, US, France and Germany in the field of aroma and sensory analysis of food, using GC-MS coupled with olfactometry. She accomplished her PhD study at ETH Zurich from 2005 to 2008, with the work: “Oxidative stability and aroma of UFA/CLA (unsaturated fatty acids/conjugated linoleic acid) enriched butter”.
