Research Scientist
at Augusta University
Dr. Rajpurohit is a research scientist at Augusta University where his lab uses zebrafish and mouse models to work on experimental therapeutics for glioblastoma and cardio-oncology. Their work includes high-throughput (HT) drug discovery, repurposing of FDA-approved drugs, identification of novel hits and lead compounds, drug validation and assessment of drug toxicity. The team are also developing and establishing an in vivo transparent transgenic cellular phenotype model of zebrafish to study the cell death process. In the context of cardio-oncology, they are studying Annexin-5 activity in normal and inflamed cardiac myocytes and examining the role of NF-κB and microglia function under normal healthy conditions and in glioblastomas. They have also applied the zebrafish model to study the role of K21 in experimental therapeutics. Dr. Rajpurohit designed and established the novel whole-organism-based ARQiv (automated reporter-based quantitative in vivo HT-screen) platform. This novel device facilitates a large-scale HT drug or chemical screen to find the hit and lead drug for the targeted disease module. He has successfully applied this unique platform to screen over 3,200 drug candidates, identifying novel pathways for increasing pancreatic beta-cell neogenesis and proliferation.
