Experimental Applications Scientist

 at Subsense

Uri Magaram is an experimental applications scientist at Subsense. After a BA in integrated science and mathematics at Northwestern University, Uri spent two and a half years in Indira Raman and David McLean’s labs doing in vivo and slice electrophysiology in zebrafish and mice. This experience solidified his love of neuroscience research and propeled him to graduate school at University of California, San Diego, where he earned his PhD in neurosciences in the lab of Sreekanth Chalasani. During his time at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, Uri explored and developed sonogenetics, a combination of ultrasound and genetic engineering used to manipulate neural circuits. This work exposed Uri to the entire scientific pipeline for developing neuroscience technology, from materials engineering to tissue culture validation to in vivo experimentation in C. elegans and mice. To expand his scope of experiences, Uri then spun out a startup with his research collaborator based on the work they did in graduate school and became the CSO of SonoBac, whose goal was to improve biomanufacturing processes using sonogenetics technology. After two years at SonoBac, Uri took the opportunity to join Subsense, where he returned to his true passion: advancing our understanding of the brain and building neurotechnologies that can improve medical research and human lives.
