This image is from a new study attempting to pave the way towards improved bone-repair procedures. Heparin microparticles used to deliver bone morphogenetic protein are shown, in red, binding to a defective femur in a rat. The heparin-based mix kept the biomaterial used in the treatment localized to only the targeted area.
