Cannabinoids: Therapeutic Potential and Medical Uses

Cannabinoids are a diverse class of chemical compounds produced in plants like cannabis, endogenously in many animals and, synthetically. Those produced in plants are known as phytocannabinoids, the most well-known source of which is the cannabis plant.

To date, 113 cannabinoids have been isolated from the cannabis plant, many of which have been linked to potential medicinal benefits.
