Agilent Technologies Inc. and Beckman Coulter Genomics, Inc. have announced that Beckman Coulter Genomics has achieved Certified Service Provider (CSP) status for the Agilent SureSelect Target Enrichment System, including new SureSelect XT which combines sequencing library preparation and gDNA preparative reagents. Through its acquisition of Cogenics, Beckman Coulter also is a CSP for Agilent SurePrint microarrays, making the company the first CSP for both Agilent platforms.

Beckman now is certified to perform SureSelect target enrichment upstream of both the AB SOLiD and Illumina Genome Analyzer sequencers. SureSelect has been shown to increase the speed and cost efficiency of next-generation sequencing workflows by enabling experiments to focus on genomic regions of interest rather than sequencing the entire genome.

Based on an extremely efficient hybrid selection technique, the SureSelect Target Enrichment System can be automated and easily scaled to meet the needs of larger sequencing projects. With sample input requirements at or below 3 micrograms genomic DNA, researchers can perform highly targeted next-generation sequencing on the most precious of samples.

The Beckman Coulter facility in Morrisville, N.C., became the first Agilent CSP in 2004 following early access to SurePrint microarray technology. The company is certified to run gene expression, microRNA and comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) experiments on the Agilent SurePrint microarray platform.

SureSelect capture, in combination with next-generation sequencing, will enable us to provide our customers with high-quality sequence information from very specific genomic regions of interest.”

Beckman achieved Agilent-certified status after completing training and passing a rigorous series of assessments that included demonstrating proficiency in SureSelect Target Enrichment and the complete Agilent integrated microarray workflow, which consists of:

• sample QC on the Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer;

• sample labeling using Agilent microarray reagents, kits, and optimized protocols;

• hybridization in SureHyb chambers;

• scanning on the Agilent DNA microarray scanner with feature extraction software; and

• data analysis using GeneSpring software and/or Agilent Genomic Workbench.
