Bio-Rad Receives a new U.S. Patent for its BioOdyssey Calligrapher Miniarrayer

Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. has announced that it was issued a new U.S. patent (US 7,262, 575) for its BioOdyssey™ Calligrapher™ MiniArrayer system.
The patent that was issued in October 2007 enables the BioOdyssey Calligrapher MiniArrayer system to maintain movements that are required for microarrying (in the micron range) in a benchtop instrument.
The patent describes methods and the apparatus used for the precise positioning of an object using linear actuators based on linear stepper motors operating in microstepping or full step mode, a control algorithm based on compensation table as well as a calibration apparatus for obtaining the compensation table.
A research team developed a microfluidic-based drug screening chip that identifies synergistic interactions between two antibiotics in eight hours. This chip can be a cell-based drug screening platform for exploring critical pharmacological patterns of antibiotic interactions, along with potential applications in screening other cell-type agents and guidance for clinical therapies.READ MORE
