BioTek has announced Dan Hannah, U.S. Field Service Manager, has been awarded the Patriot Award by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve program (ESGR), a Department of Defense office.

An employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve, or the spouse of a Guard or Reserve member, may nominate individual supervisors for support provided directly to the nominating Service member and his or her family.

The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support Citizen Warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.

Brian Shapley, one of BioTek’s Field Microplate Specialists, nominated Mr. Hannah based on Dan’s support of Brian’s service in the Navy Reserve.

Dan thanked Brian for the nomination and states, “Brian is a valued member of the Microplate Specialist team at BioTek. I am proud of his work with BioTek and the Navy. We all appreciate the sacrifice that comes with his military service and are glad we can help in some small way.”

BioTek also received the Above and Beyond Award from the ESGR. The Above and Beyond Award is presented by ESGR State Committees to recognize employers at the local level who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) by providing their Guard and Reserve employees additional, non-mandated benefits such as differential or full pay to offset lost wages, extended health benefits, and other similar benefits. The award is given in limited numbers by state committees to employers who have had at least one of their supervisors/managers recognized with a Patriot Award, and who have signed or agree to sign a statement of support (SoS).

Briar Alpert, BioTek’s President, states, "We deeply appreciate this recognition and feel both responsible and proud to support all of our employees that have committed to active guard and reserve duty. It is through their commitments that we can all enjoy our sense of liberty."

Both awards were presented by a military liaison officer during BioTek’s Global Service Meeting, on Wednesday, August 20th, at the Hilton Hotel in Burlington.
