Elsevier MDL has announced the availability of material safety information from its occupational health services (OHS) products at no additional charge to licensed researchers of certain MDL® content database and chemical inventory management products.

The OHS Platinum Service gives researchers licensed to use DiscoveryGate®, MDL® Logistics, the MDL® Available Chemicals Directory Finder and other products summary views of OHS Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS's) at no additional charge, providing immediate access to critical environmental, health and safety information on chemical substances.

"For over 25 years OHS has helped companies that manufacture or use chemical substances to meet regulatory requirements and provide researchers with environmental, health and safety information," said Steve Young, director of Elsevier MDL content products.

"Now, with access to summary views of OHS material safety data sheet information available directly from MDL applications, researchers can rapidly obtain crucial health and safety information without interrupting their workflow."

"Researchers can focus on the business of research while essential substance information concerning reactivity, incompatible substances, exposure limits, hazards, potential health effects and more is readily at hand."

The Summary Sheets in OHS Platinum Service present data from the OHS Pure Substance Database, a collection of 20,000 independently researched and authored MSDS's.

From MDL Logistics and the MDL ACD Finder, simply clicking the safety diamond opens the Summary Sheet in the researcher's default Web browser.

In DiscoveryGate, researchers click the 'OHS MSDS' link under the list of 'Also found in' data sources to view Summary Sheets.

OHS Platinum Service is already configured and available in DiscoveryGate and MDL Logistics.

Customers using the MDL Available Chemicals Directory Finder (for MDL ACD and MDL® Screening Compounds Directory) can configure Platinum Service access using instructions online

For customers who want to access the full MSDS from MDL applications, Elsevier MDL offers OHS Platinum Plus.
