Variation in Genes Associated With Viral Entry of SARS-CoV-2 Unlikely to Influence Morbidity

News

To investigate clinical variability in SARS-CoV-2, a team of researchers surveyed publicly available databases of genomic variants and studied variants across multiple regional and ethnic groups in seven genes known to play roles in viral entry into host cells and recognition of viral RNA in host cells.

New Method Maps Contact Points Between Replicated DNA Molecules

News

Breaks in our DNA, which can occur spontaneously or result from irradiation or chemical insults, can lead to severe problems since they foster mutations and can ultimately lead to cancer. One of the main DNA repair pathways involves copying the missing information on the damaged DNA from the replicated sister chromatid. For this to occur, the two DNA molecules of sister chromatids need to come close together at the exact same genomic position. The team around Daniel Gerlich developed a method that solves this problem.
