The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (NanoKTN) has announced the date of its first Application of Modelling seminar, being organized in partnership with the Chemistry Innovation KTN.

The seminal event, being hosted by some of the foremost academics in the field, will raise current awareness of the impact of modelling and will focus on the application of modelling to process and product design.

Historically, the application of modelling to product and process design has been seen as the exclusive preserve of very large companies. However, sharing of expertise and computational resource presents an opportunity to encourage the development of world-class expertise in UK modelling, which may be exploited by organizations representing a range of sizes. Formation of such an accessible competence base will promote the advancement of UK industrial competitiveness.

The event will bring together a host of industrial companies with an interest in the application of modelling to process and product design and some of the foremost academics in the field. As well as providing real-life examples of the current beneficial applications of modelling to industry, potential future opportunities will be suggested.

Key outcomes of the event will be the development of pre-competitive programmes applying modelling to industrial products and processes and the identification of gaps/opportunities in the UK modelling skills, and ways by which these may be exploited/overcome.
