Stratos Genomics Receives Grant from the NHGRI for Further Development of Sequencing by Expansion™ Technology

Stratos Genomics Inc. has announced receipt of grant funds from the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) in the amount of $829,000 over two years.
The NHGRI, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), awarded $14 million to nine qualifying research organizations on Monday, August 22, 2011, to support the development of revolutionary DNA sequencing technologies.
Stratos Genomics will utilize the grant funds to further development of its ultra-low-cost nucleic acid sequencing method for whole genome analysis and molecular diagnostics.
"We are excited to receive this award and grateful to have the support of NHGRI," said Mark Kokoris, Chief Science Officer and principal investigator for the grant.
Kokoris continued, "The additional funding will allow us to expand our development efforts and bring us one step closer to realizing the enormous potential of our Sequencing by Expansion™ technology."
"We are confident that NHGRI grantees will continue to make major breakthroughs in the development of technologies that will sequence a human genome for $1,000 or less," NHGRI Director Eric D. Green, M.D, Ph.D., said in a press release dated April 22, 2011.
Green continued, "As genome sequencing costs continue to decline, researchers and clinicians can increase the scale and scope of their studies. We will continue to fund innovations to accelerate what is known about human health and disease."
