Thermo Electron Corporation presented its HAAKE rheometer product line at this year's Chinaplas, held June 21-25, 2005 in Guangzhou, PR China. The company introduced the newest developments of its material characterization technologies to the Chinese market. Among the featured products was the HAAKE PolyLab Open System (OS) Rheometer System, designed to fulfill the specific requirements of the polymer industry.

The system architecture has been designed on an open industry standard to allow multiple sensors and systems to be added for comprehensive viscosity and spectroscopy measurement.

One major advantage of the HAAKE PolyLab OS system is the high degree of flexibility offered by the "plug & measure" design. Another highlight of Thermo's presentation at the Chinaplas was the HAAKE Modular Advanced Rheometer System (MARS). The modular design allows all key components to be interchangeable including the measuring head and electronic unit.

The instrument measures the viscous and elastic properties of a wide range of samples in rotation and oscillation. The rheometer's low mass moment of inertia, combined with the lightweight titanium rotating bodies, allows measurements to be performed on diluted samples even at the lowest of torque levels.

The motor is configured to allow solids to be deformed in a precise manner. The instrument can be used in pharmaceutical, cosmetics, paints and dies, polymers or petrochemical applications.

"This event has been a major success for our Material Characterization business," said Volker Exner, Vice President Customer Relations. "It confirms our decision to focus on this key geography. We recently opened a Center of Excellence in Shanghai/PR China to better understand the needs of the Chinese market and to provide our Chinese customers with best service."
