"Since 2007 the Helsinki Chemicals Forum has been looking deeply and broadly at the key issues that are manifesting as companies, scientists, NGOs, the public and its governments work towards the World Summit on Sustainable Development goal to minimise the adverse effects of manmade chemicals on human health and the environment by 2020," states Mamta Patel, Editorial Director, Chemical Watch.

"As Kai Madsen of UNEP pointed out at a recent Forum, this is a moving goal. The more we improve our information about the chemicals we buy, make, use and sell every day in innumerable industrial and consumer products, the more we understand that there are significant gaps in our knowledge and that other factors – evolving scientific knowledge, inadequate resources, competing  political priorities – all conspire to create complex dynamics that make achievement of the goal difficult."

Promoting transatlantic trade, fracking, endocrine disrupting chemicals and emerging economy needs are among the highly topical themes to be debated at this year’s Helsinki Chemicals Forum on 22-23 May 2014 in Helsinki, Finland.
