The "Victory" Reaction: A Three Component Synthesis of Pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidines

Here, we report our preliminary results that pyridopyrimidines 6 can be obtained in a single step as a result of a one-pot three component reaction using controlled microwave-assisted synthesis (Emrys Synthesizer).

Microwave-Assisted Scavenging of Electrophiles Utilizing Polymer-Supported Sequestration Reagents

Recent work has reported the automated generation of a diverse library of multifunctional dihydropyrimidines (DHPMs) utilizing a microwave-mediated solution phase Biginelli three component condensation. Since most of the pharmacologically attractive DHPM derivatives are N3-acylated analogs, we became interested in developing a rapid method for accessing libraries containing this structure motif in high-throughput format.

Intravenous Geletin Nanoparticulate Formation of Vincristine Sulfate: Preparation, Characterisation and Release Studies

Gelatin could be used as a carrier to prepare nanoparticles with considerable entrapment of Vincristine sulfate. The prepair nanoparticles could release over a period of time. The in vitro release studies have been encouraging and a possible reduction of toxicities of Vincristine sulfate would be expected on further in vivo studies.

Library Production: A Database for the Enzymatic Production of Small Interfering RNA (siRNA)

Presented is the Library Production (LP), a web-based tool that allows storage and integration of data from the production process. The LP tool is a database covering currently 15,000 - 30,000 esiRNA molecules each for three libraries and forms part of a comprehensive software package called Laboratory Information Management System of the Technology Development Studio (TDS-LIMS).

Biomathematical Information Compression and Signal Extraction for Gene Expression Microarray Data Analysis

Gene expression Microarray data covers both signal (active key genes) and noise. A tentative to recognize any genes expression pattern without clearing the data is like recognizing faces and details on a jammed TV screen. Noise in this context can be related to fluctuation due to the experimental condition, to outliers, and also genes presenting no modulation between groups. In this work we present a biostatisticalmethod for noise filtering and statistical significance assessment.

Computational Model of the Anthracycline-Binding Site in Carbonyl and Aldo-Keto Reductases: a Structural Basis for Designing Inhibitors

The aim of this work was to investigate the interaction mechanism of the anthracyclines with the cytosolic reductases. Predictive models have been constructed by means of a molecular docking study, that offer utility in guiding the rational design of inhibitors of reductase activity.

Applications of Laser Scanning Microplate Cytometry in High Content Screening

Traditional methods for High Content Analysis (HCA) use technologies such as flow cytometry and microscope-based imaging systems. Laser-scanning microplate cytometry has many advantages over these, and is more amenable for use in High Content Screening (HCS).

Microbiological Control in a Stem Cell Bank: Standardisation

The transplant of cells of human origin is a sector of medicine which shows a high increase and which entails great opportunities for treatment of certain diseases. Stem cell banks should assure the quality, the traceability and the safety of cultures in order to avoid transmission of disease.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells: Coming of Age?

The effects of aging on human mesenchymal stem cells, (MSC) were investigated. MSC were isolated from patients of different ages and the different parameters of aging were measured either immediately after isolation or after long-term cultivation in vitro. Markers of senescence were investigated, including p21, p53 and beta-galactosidase levels. Antioxidative defense capacity of the MSC were tested together with markers of oxidative damage and antioxidative enzyme activities.

Tunable Carbon-Carbon and Carbon-Sulfur Cross-Coupling of Boronic Acids with 3,4-Dihydropyrimidine-2-thiones

Here we present a direct microwave-assisted Pd(0)-catalyzed/Cu(I)-mediated carbon-carbon cross-coupling of 3,4-dihydropyrimidine-2-thiones and 3,4-dihydropyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid thiol ester with boronic acids under Liebeskind-Srogl conditions.
