Building and deploying digital pathology infrastructure for a heterogeneous user base
Too often, image analysis and data/image mining projects remain stuck in
microenvironments because they are limited by vendorspecific
solutions that neither scale nor interact with material from other departments or institutions. Successful rollout of digital histopathology therefore requires more than a whole slide scanner. At Brussels Free
University (VUB), we wanted to provide a core digital pathology infrastructure that can support a range of different use cases.

A Novel Cell-Free DNA Extraction System for Cancer Diagnostics
We developed a magnetic bead-based cfDNA extraction kit and integrated it into the automated qPCR- and NGS-based IVD workflows. In this study we are compering this magnetic beads-based cfDNA extraction system with a column-based method.

Microfluidic Extrusion of Cell-laden Hydrogel Fibers for 3D-Bioprinting
An overview on how the incorporation of microfluidic platforms in 3D-bioprinters can open new routes in the creation of heterogeneous, tissue-specific bio-constructs and in the high-throughput screening of bioinks compositions for regenerative medicine and in vitro tissue modeling.

CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing utilizing chemically synthesized RNA
Chemical synthesis has been easily applied for rapidly generating either crRNA and tracrRNA or synthetic sgRNA for direct delivery into cells for gene editing applications such as DNA-free options and high throughput arrayed screening.

The Use of GC/MS to Identify Contamination, Counterfeiting and Adulteration of Spices
Our previous study of spices was designed to evaluate the metal content in the spices for evidence of contamination by heavy metals or for adulteration and counterfeiting by notable concentrations of wear or additive metals. This study targeted the same spice samples to quantify the characteristic primary and secondary market compounds for each spice group.

The Chemical Synthesis of Long and Highly Modified RNA using 2'-ACE Chemistry
Dharmacon has previously developed a novel RNA synthesis chemistry making RNA synthesis as reliable, accessible and of comparable quality as routinely observed in DNA synthesis.

BAP1 Immunohistochemistry and p16 FISH in the Diagnosis of Malignant Peritoneal Mesothelioma
In order to differentiate peritoneal malignant mesothelioma (PMM) from primary peritoneal serous carcinoma (PPSC) and reactive mesothelial hyperplasia (RMH), we used immunohistochemistry to examine for BAP1, and FISH to examine for homozygous deletion of p16.

Development and Application of Quantitative Immunoassays for Major Milk Allergens Bos d 5 (β-lactoglobulin) and Bos d 11 (β-casein)
In this study, we sought to develop accurate, sensitive and reliable assays that would enable quantification of multiple milk allergens.

Blood Transcriptomic Diagnosis of Active TB with Five Genes
This study aimed to identify the minimal set of genes that can accurately diagnose active TB, both pulmonary and extrapulmonary, and evaluate their specificity.

A Novel Benchtop Time-of-Flight GC-MS System for High Performance Analysis of Human Urine
A workflow was developed and implemented for the effective comparison of urine. It involved the preparation of stable compounds through derivatization, data acquisition using a high performance benchtop TOFMS, comprehensive data processing (NonTarget Deconvolution™), and quick retrospective analysis of rich datasets using Target Analyte Finding.
