Mass Spectrometry: From Imaging to Metabolic Networks

We show that network analysis of co-localized ions from mass spectrometry imaging data provides a detailed chemo-spatial insight into the metabolic heterogeneity of tumors. Furthermore, module preservation analysis between colorectal cancer patients with and without metastatic recurrence suggests hypotheses on the nature of the different local metabolic pathways.

Depression, Anxiety and Apathy in Young-Onset and Atypical Dementia: A systematic review

This study aims to examine the body of empirical studies investigating the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and apathy in atypical and young-onset dementia.

Identifying Non-Intentionally Added Substances (NIAS) in Food Contact Materials

Concern about the safety of food products has increased dramatically with intentionally and non-intentionally added substances (NIAS) used in packaging being of particular interest. APGC and high resolution MS together with a workflow driven process was used to identify unknown compounds in packaging.

Human Exposure to Cyanotoxins: Exploring in Vitro Detoxification Using Atmospheric Cold Plasma Treatment To Protect Human Health

Recently, there have been increases in freshwater harmful algal blooms. There is therefore a need to try and effectively detoxify drinking water contaminated with cyanotoxins to safeguard human health by use of new and novel techniques.

Psychiatric Risk Gene Cacna1c and Early Life Stress: Potential Gene-Environment interactions?

Early life stress (ELS) is highly associated with development of psychopathology
and mood disorders in adulthood. Genetic studies have identified variation in the gene calcium voltage-gated channel subunit alpha1C (CACNA1C) to increase risk for several psychiatric disorders. This poster assessed the expression of Cacna1c following prepubertal stress.

Young Adult Women’s Relationship Status and HPV Risk Perceptions: A Barrier to HPV Vaccination?

Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine rates continue to be low in the United States. Young women ages 18-26 years are eligible for catch-up vaccination but previous research shows that relationships status and percieved risk may be barriers to HPV vaccination. The purpose of this quantitative study was to assess the association between relationship status and perceived risk for HPV among young adult women.

Treatment Options for Chronic Parvovirus Viremia in Pediatric Heart Transplant Patients in a Tertiary Care Center

This abstract discusses three cases of pediatric heart transplant patients who suffered from parvovirus (B19) infection. Of these patients, two ( B & C) responded well to standard intravenous Ig therapy. Patient A however, did not respond to standard treatment and was begun on subcutaneous Ig, which effectively diminished his viral load. Thus, subcutaneous Ig infusions might serve as a second line treatment for transplant patients with parvovirus who do not respond well to the standard approach.

T-helper cell phenotype expression in cutaneous lesions of angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma

Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is a common type of peripheral T-cell lymphoma. AITL can be missed until lymphadenopathy develops in patients initially presenting with skin lesions, as skin biopsy may lack conclusive findings. Our case highlights the extranodal presentation of AITL with cutaneous lesions displaying the TFH phenotype.

The Utility of Pediatric Asthma Severity Scores in Disposition Decisions for Status Asthmaticus

We aimed to determine if the Pediatric Asthma Severity Score (PASS) predicts a patient's appropriate level of care in the inpatient setting, with special attention to patients who required rapid transfer to another level of care after initial disposition and/or hospital readmission.

The Role of K13 in Artemisinin Resistance

Plasmodium falciparum is evolving resistance to Artemisinin Combination Therapy. The gene with the strongest association with resistance is K13. K13 is an ortholog of the well characterized transcriptional regulator Keap1. In this work we transcriptionally characterized a mutant with a transposon inserted in the K13 promoter region which results in dysregulation of K13 at 2 points of the intraerythrocytic cycle of the life-cycle to identify the processes regulated by K13.
