Attendees will receive a compact overview of the important aspects of working with liquids in confined spaces as well as handling of minute amounts of chemicals for the development of functional lab-on-a-chip devices.

Instructors will be: Jörg P. Kutter, Ph.D., Dept. of Micro and Nanotechnology, Technical University of Denmark; Johan Nilsson, Ph.D., Department of Electrical Measurements, Lund University, Sweden; and Sabeth Verpoorte, Ph.D., Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy, University of Groningen, The Netherlands.

LabSmith will be providing its LabPackage microfluidic equipment and components in support of this educational opportunity. The LabPackage provides complete control and visualization of microfluidic and nanofluidic transport phenomena and related experiments. The LabPackage includes CapTite™ microfluidic components; uProcess™ automated valves, pumps and control software; microfluidic ChipShop polymer chips; the HVS448 High Voltage Sequencer; and the SVM340 Synchronized Video Microscope.

“The hands-on demonstration of microfluidic phenomena with the LabPackage will allow students to better understand the practical aspects required to translate the principles they learn in the course to the laboratory,” says Dr. Yolanda Fintschenko, Director of Sales, Marketing, and New Technologies, at LabSmith, Inc.

The course is open to SLAS meeting attendees, who can sign up for the session when registering for the conference.
