The new Thermo Scientific Mass Spectrometric Immunoassay (MSIA) pipette tips provides a robust technology designed to purify target proteins, peptides and therapeutic antibodies in a simplified way for downstream mass spectrometric analysis. Thermo Scientific MSIA pipette tips debut at the 62nd ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics at the Holiday suite in the Hilton Baltimore Hotel.

“As researchers use LC-MS to quantitate low abundance proteins and related variants, protein purification is critical to reduce the complexity of the sample and allow shorter LC gradients and ultimately maximize MS sensitivity,” said Clive Wingar, business director, liquid handling consumables, Thermo Fisher Scientific. “Our MSIA technology can uncover and quantify down to picomolar-levels of proteins, protein variants, and post-translational modifications with exceptional reproducibility. Testing more samples in less time with accurate results enables researchers to lead the way in biomarker discovery and analysis, biotherapeutics trials, and other critical discoveries.”

The new MSIA consumables are suited for research applications and are available in a range of formats to support individual assay development needs, including:

• Insulin: Simultaneous quantitative and qualitative analysis of endogenous insulin and exogenous insulin analogs purified from plasma, ideal for clinical research applications.
• Streptavidin: Robust platform that immobilizes biotinylated affinity ligands to purify proteins and therapeutic antibodies for downstream MS analysis, ideal for biopharma applications.
• Protein A, G, and A/G: Versatile option to bind and orientate a wide range of antibodies for targeted MS-assay development, ideal for antibody-related research applications.
• Custom: Optimal affinity ligands are selected and covalently immobilized to the microcolumn surface, ideal for proven routine and high-throughput MS research applications.

The MSIA consumables are an integral part of a MS-based workflow solution that includes automated liquid handling with the Thermo Scientific Versette Automated Liquid Handler and downstream sample analysis using MS systems, such as the Thermo Scientific TSQ Quantiva triple-stage quadrupole, Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Elite hybrid and Thermo Scientific Q Exactive mass spectrometers.
