Sanford Burnham Prebys Adopts Mosaic Platform
The Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, a non-profit research center, has selected Cenevo’s Mosaic sample management platform for life sciences to support their biomedical and translational research, including stem cell and drug discovery studies. Cenevo, the specialist in enabling agentic, connected labs, delivers lab management systems, automation, orchestration, data management and generative and agentic AI for life sciences.
Sanford Burnham Prebys will be replacing their home-grown sample management system with Mosaic. Beyond streamlining day-to-day sample management operations, Mosaic’s cloud-based system scales as needed, making it easy to add integrations with new instruments and software, while significantly reducing IT operations and maintenance costs, as no onsite servers need to be maintained.
“Our legacy system simply outgrew its usefulness,” says Hilarie Austin, lab manager at Sanford Burnham Prebys. “With Mosaic’s broad integrations and cloud-based operations and storage, we now have exactly what we need to support today’s experiments with plenty of room to grow into tomorrow.”
Mosaic integrates with more than 150 laboratory hardware devices and software platforms; Sanford Burnham Prebys is leveraging that technology for four of its platform integrations. The center’s CDD Vault synchronizes the available registered substances with Mosaic, and the LVL Rack Scanner and BarTender printer communicate with Mosaic directly. The Beckman Coulter Echo 655 integration provides a flexible solution where Mosaic generates a list of transfers to be performed on the Echo, and the operator can then update Mosaic with what transfers actually occurred.
The migration and translation of complex historical sample data into Mosaic means that Sanford Burnham Prebys can leverage both existing and new data to accelerate discovery across all their modalities: small molecules, stem cells, aging, immunity, and children's diseases.
The Sanford Burnham Prebys team is using the Cenevo Academy training modules to ensure they can maximize the long-term value of adding Mosaic to their laboratory processes.
“Mosaic simplifies sample management so Sanford Burnham Prebys researchers can focus on discovery,” says Cenevo SVP Customer Services, Graham Lipscomb. “As their research gets ever more complex, they’ll be able to depend on Mosaic’s integration and cloud-based platform to handle anything they need.”
