Shimadzu Introduces Low Temperature Evaporative Light Scattering Detector

Shimadzu Scientific Instruments, Inc. has announced the launch of its Low Temperature Evaporative Light Scattering Detector (ELSD-LTII).
Shimadzu claims that, ELSD-LTII is able to detect components in a sample down to a high picogram level and is ideal for identifying analytes in high-throughput screening applications, and in areas such as drug discovery and combinatorial chemistry.
The ELSD-LTII universal detector is designed to identify analytes regardless of spectroscopic properties.
By removing the mobile phase through nebulization and taking a light scattering measurement of the dried particles using an LED as a light source, sensitivity for trace analysis is achieved.
The detector also features a signal processing algorithm to minimize noise and optimize sensitivity.
These features combine to allow a lower operating temperature and give unsurpassed sensitivity for semi-volatile compounds that would be lost at higher evaporation temperatures.
