Tracking Animal Movement with Deep Learning

Animal behavior and movement  can be followed and tracked with human-level accuracy by a new deep learning algorithm. This technique doesn't require tracking markers or arduous manual analysis. In this video, we see the algorithm track a mouse as it sniffs out an odor.

The strong smell is designed to attract animals to the site to help to spread the seeds of the fruit as far as possible. Andrew Dickerson at the University of Central Florida has recorded the squirting motion using high speed cameras to try to understand the exact process of these 'micro-jets' of citrus oil.
